Yersinia enterocolitica: An Update

Rajendra Pal Singh

Yersinia enterocolitica is a psychotropic bacterium, well known for its potential to cause diarrhea in all age group including pediatric age group. In spite of several documented incidences of Yersinia enterocolitica induced diarrheal outbreaks throughout the globe, awareness about this pathogen is considerably less even among the specialists and to the best of my knowledge themicrobiological laboratories are currently not providing laboratory diagnosis of the pathogen in the diarrhea workup of a patient. This article is written to provide an update regarding Yersinia enterocolitica emphasizing its clinical significance as a diarrhea causing pathogen.
