Voltammetric investigation of interaction of ethyl methane sulfonate with guanine at carbon paste electrode

S.V.Lokesh, B.S.Sherigara, H.S.Bhojya Naik

The electrochemical studies have been carried out to probe the interaction of alkylating agent ethyl methane sulfonate (EMS) with guanine. EMS shows appreciable electrostatic binding to guanine in solution. The voltammetric behavior of guanine was investigated at carbon paste electrode. Guanine was oxidized, yielding one irreversible oxidation peak. The mobilization in the electrolyte as well as immobilization of EMS on carbon paste surface allowed an interaction process to take place with guanine. The response was characterized with respect to ionic strength, accumulation time, EMS and guanine concentration, and other variables.
