Validated RP-HPLC Method for Simultaneous Estimation of Atenolol and Alprazolam in Combined Dosage Forms

A rapid and sensitive reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method has been developed for simultaneous estimation of atenolol and alprazolam. Chromatographic separation was achieved on reverse phase Hypersil BDS C18 column (250 x 4.6 mm, 5 µm) using the mobile phase consisting of buffer (pH 4) and acetonitrile in the ratio of 50:50, v/v. The mobile phase was pumped at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min and detection was done by UV detector at 240 nm. The proposed method was found to be simple, fast, accurate, precise and reproducible and could be applied for routine quality control analysis for simultaneous determination of atenolol and alprazolam in pharmaceutical dosage forms.
