Synthetic Organic Chemistry as a Positive Catalyst
George Thomas*
Long before a fundamental knowledge of the related radical intermediates was achieved, radical based synthesis techniques like the Kolbe electrolysis and Hofmann lof fler Freytag reaction were found and developed. The development of novel techniques for radical generation in recent years, together with the decade’s long accumulation of reactivity data on radical species, has sparked an increase in the use of radical based methods in synthetic planning and execution. The production of nitrogen containing organic molecules, which are crucial for chemistry, biology, and the material sciences, can be achieved by addition processes using systems or Hydrogen Atom Transfer (HAT).
