Hydrogeochemical Analysis of Ground Water Parameters in Coimbatore District, Tamilnadu, India

P. Santhosh and D. Revathi

This study deals with the hydrogeochemical analysis of ground water parameters in the Noyyal river basin along the Coimbatore district. By this process the quality of ground water for drinking and irrigation purpose are estimated. The secondary data were collected from Public Work Department (PWD) and these data were analysed and compared with BIS standards and WHO standards. Their physiochemical characteristics and calculate parameters viz., pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), potassium (K), total hardness (TH), calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), chlorides (Cl− ), sulphates (SO4 2− ), concentration of sodium (Na+ ), carbonates (CO3 2− ), bicarbonates (HCO3 − ) and fluoride (F− ). These parameters are useful in predicting the ground water quality and its characteristics. In this study, it is found that the water is not suitable for drinking purpose and less suitable for irrigation.
