A HPTLCmethod to determine andrographolide inAndrographis paniculata and some ayurvedic herbal formulations was developed. The chromatographic separationwas performed on silica gel F254 precoatedHPTLCplates. Ethyl acetate-methanol-glacial acetic acid (8:1:0.2)was used asmobile phase. Rf value of andrographolidewas 0.64.Calibration plots of peaks area against concentrationwere linear in the range of 0.6 to 3.6 ìg. The limit of quantification was 0.60ïÂÂg and limit of detection was 0.20ïÂÂg. The amount of andrographolide in Andrographis paniculata powder, formulation I and formulation II was found to be 0.82%, 0.56%and 0.44%respectively. The developed HPTLCmethod is accurate, precise, simple, rapid and selective.
